Salvador de Bahia, Brazil

Hi Girlies,

KT, Sugarloaf is a mountain, it is not on an island.  People ride the cable car to the top to get beautiful views of Rio.

Today we are at sea heading for the Amazon River.  We have three days at sea until our next port of Macapa, Brazil.  Yesterday we were in Salvador de Bahia.  It is a very large city with a population of 7 million.  We walked off the ship and right across the street was this elevator.

It took us from the port to the old town part of Salvador.  It costs 5 cents to ride the elevator.  Here are some views from the top.

This cross was right next to the elevator.  See our ship through the cross.

There are lots of pretty buildings in Salvador.  This is city hall.

And this place where people are buried.  Nanoo said it was creepy!

We also went into this church.

People make a wish here and tie a ribbon to the church fence.  Look at all these ribbons!

We got some ribbons from this guy, he tied one to Nana’s arm.

We made a wish for each of you.  Here Nana ties a ribbon to the fence, Gpa tied one too.  Hope the wishes come true!!

We walked around and did a little shopping.  There was so much pretty art for sale.  We bought a small picture to remember Salvador.

After a couple hours we returned to our ship.  This was at the top of the elevator with the cool letters spelling Salvador.

IMG 5518

It was really HOT.  How hot was it?  It was so hot that Nanoo had a beer!!

IMG 4334

Of course Gpa had one too!

So that is a look at our day in Salvador, we had fun.  This is what the city looked like as we sailed away.

Gpa will post again in a few days after Macapa.  Macapa is interesting because it sits right on the equator.  In fact, there is a place where you can put one foot in the southern hemisphere and one in the northern hemisphere.  Maybe we can get a picture of that.  We love you.
