KT, your blog is “g rated”, that’s why I didn’t repost the pictures of the Carnival girls, lol.
We are now sailing towards Rio De Janeiro, but for the last two days we have been in beautiful BA. This is what it looked like as our ship approached.
Earlier in the morning Gpa saw this beautiful sunrise as he walked on the deck.
We started our first day in BA with a tour of the city. We passed the Casa Rosada.
From this balcony at the Casa Rosada, Eva Peron (Evita) addressed the people of Argentina. The balcony is the one with in the middle with the three arched windows. Have you heard of Evita? Only one other person has ever used this balcony. Can you guess who it was? Hint, she played Eva Peron in the movie Evita.
We visited the beautiful cathedral Metropolitana.
This was the church of Pope Francis when he was archbishop of BA.
A depiction of Evita is on the side of this building.
BA has many beautiful buildings. Some look like they are from Paris.
We shopped on this famous BA walking street, Calle Florida.
We stopped for a coffee.
We went to this neighborhood called La Boca. The balconies have all these colorful figures.
There were lots of places to shop for souvenirs. Wonder if we found anything for you girlies?
BA has lots of modern, very expensive places to live.
There is also a very poor part of the city.
We went to this very unusual cemetery. It’s called Recoleta and all the people are buried in mausoleums.
There are over 4500 mausoleums in the cemetery and each one is owned by a family. When a member of the family dies, their casket is placed in the mausoleum.
This is the most famous mausoleum, that of Evita’s family. Her name was Duarte before she married Juan Peron. Evita is buried here. She was very loved by the people of Argentina, they still bring flowers to her mausoleum.
We had lunch at this restaurant along the water. The restaurant is very popular in BA, it is called Cabana Las Lilas.
The waiter brought this before we even ordered. Yummy!
Argentina is famous for its beef. We both had tenderloin with french fries. Nana said this was the best piece of meat she has ever eaten. The fries were awesome too!
Gpa enjoying a nice Malbec from Argentina. Lots of wine is produced in Argentina.
At the end of the meal, the waiter brought this Limoncello and Grappa to the table. We each had a couple shots. The Grappa is like jet fuel. Nana wouldn’t let Gpa drink anymore :).
As we walked around after lunch we saw this unusual work of art.
Our two days in BA were about over and we returned to the ship for our 5pm sail away. Some of the ports are very pretty, but some of them look like this. We were docked right in the middle of this container port. It was interesting watching the ships getting loaded by the huge cranes.
So that is a look at our two wonderful days in BA. It is a beautiful city and we would like to return one day. We are now off to Rio and arrive there on Friday. Gpa will be posting again when we leave Rio. We miss you and love you! Only two and a half weeks left in our trip around the world.
