Hi Girlies,
We are now at sea heading for our next port. We spent the last two days in Rio. This is what it looked like as our ship was coming into the city. If you look closely your can see Christ the Redeemer statue on the left of the picture and Sugarloaf Mountain on the right of the picture.
Sugarloaf Mountain
We took the ship shuttle bus into town. It dropped us off at this famous hotel, the Copacabana Palace.
This is Copacabana beach on Friday, it was a lot more crowded on Saturday.
Copacabana is a almost four miles long and we walked the entire length. It was very hot!! All along the beach are these condos.
In the evening we had a local group on the ship to perform Brazilian song and dance. They were very colorful.
Towards the end of the show they started to get people out of the audience to come on stage to dance. This guy came to get Nanoo. Couldn’t say no to him!!
Dancing Nanoo!!
In the conga line with Keith!!
On Saturday we had a tour to the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado mountain. We took this cog railway to the mountain top. The ride took about 20 minutes and it was very steep.
On the way up I took this hazy picture of Rio.
Christ the Redeemer. The statue was completed in nine years between 1922 and 1931. It is 98 feet tall and the arms stretch to 92 feel wide.
Lots of people were at Corcovado with us.
Another hazy view of Rio and Sugarloaf.
On the way back to the ship we passed beautiful Ipanema beach.
These stands with food and drink are all along the beach. Good place for Gpa to have a beer.
We passed Sugarloaf. In the middle of the picture, you can see the cable cars that take people to the top. We didn’t have time to do this, but Nana has done it before when she flew to Rio with Pan Am.
So that is a look at our two days in Rio. We enjoyed our time here, but it is not the easiest city to visit. It is a very large city and the traffic is horrendous. Don’t know how people are going to get around during the Olympics next year. Bye for now, we love you.
Gpa and Nanoo

Those dancers were very colorful and beautiful and that guy who was close up in the picture was scary
ReplyDeleteThat one was from budgie
ReplyDeleteI love Rio. The statue you saw was in the 1st movie. I can't beleive Nana was picked to dance. Go Nana!! That car you rode in looked fun too. Oh, and what is Sugarloaf? Is it an island or a mountain?!
